Post 4: Time travel to the past or future

It's funny that this is the topic of this week's blog, I was recently asked this very question by my older brother.

Honestly I wouldn't travel that far into the past or that far into the future. I feel that in the past the society was very male chauvinist and it's not convenient for me to be there, plus I wouldn't have today's technology or any conveniences. On the other hand, traveling to the future seems a bit risky to me, considering the pollution, water and food shortages... I'm not sure if I would like to see how this world ends.

Now, thinking about whether to travel to the past or to the future, the first thing that came to my mind was to travel to the near future and write down the winning lottery numbers to go back and win them all haha. But thinking about it more seriously, as I said, I wouldn't travel that far into the past. I would like to be able to live my school period again, I feel they were very nice and entertaining times, I had no worries and everything seemed to go well. I would definitely stay there and repeat everything (even though there are obviously going to be some not so good days, I know it would be worth it).

I would like to be able to go back to play with my childhood friends, go biking, rollerblading, but also spend time with my family, especially my grandmother who now lives in the south and I don't see her as much as I would like.

Post 3: My dream job

In the future I would like to work as a dentist, helping people not only to get rid of pain, cavities and diseases but also to help them to recover their smile and with it their self-esteem.

I am currently studying dentistry at the University of Chile. I can't say if I want to do a specialty right away when I finish this career, actually I think it's something I have to see later. What is certain is that I will definitely work in what I am studying, because I like it and I know it is my vocation.

Lately I have been thinking that I would like to work in rural areas, where dental care is more necessary than in the cities... being far from the city does not complicate me, in fact I like the tranquility of the more rural areas.

Regarding the salary, I would really like to live quietly, not with luxuries but I would not want to lack a plate of food or a roof over my head.

I hope I can fulfill my dream because it really is something I have dreamed of since I was a little girl, I always liked going to the dentist, I even liked the smell in the dental office haha. But mostly because I want to be able to help people to be healthy, give them quality of life and self-esteem.

Post 2: The best holidays ever

My best holidays was when I went on a study tour. We went to the south of Chile for a whole week.
We did a lot of activities, like going to the beach, to a disco, to the pool, we had a gala and toured a lot of locations. It was fun and tiring, we slept very little in the residence, we took advantage of sleeping in the bus while we were on our way to the different activities and places.
I will never forget that when we were in Chiloé "El Trauco", a creature from Chilean mythology that is known for seducing women and then getting them pregnant, got on our bus when we were on our way back and we all got a little scared (fortunately none of us ended up pregnant haha). Although if I had to choose the place I liked the most it would be Pucón because here we did rafting, which consists of going down a river in the direction of the current (downstream), on some kind of boat or raft, it was very exciting and adrenaline-filled.
But definitely what I liked most about this vacation was enjoying all this with my friends.

Post 1: A country I would like to visit

A country I would like to visit is Brazil, the biggest country in South America.

This country is known, among other things, for the carnival in Rio de Janeiro, which is held in late February or early March, with sensational parades, music, dancers, impressive costumes and parties everywhere.

You can also navigate the Amazon River, which is the longest and most abundant in the world, although you must be careful not to dive into it unless you want to have an encounter with piranhas, caimans and anacondas.

In this country you can go from beach to beach, as it has an impressive and very long coastline, and unlike Chile the water of these beaches is not cold, it is quite warm (varies between 20° and 30° Celsius).

In Brazil you can enjoy an excellent view in Rio de Janeiro, which is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, the best point to observe it is from the viewpoint in the Tijuca National Park, where you can contemplate this wonderful city.

Post 8: A subject I´ve enjoyed studying this semester

The course I liked the most this semester is "Desarrollo de destrezas y autocuidado para el ejercicio profesional II" which is a continuation of a course from last semester. I consider that this one has been much more fun and more attractive than the other subjects because here we do practical activities where we can put into practice the theoretical material and develop our skills, such as learning to use the micromotor.

The classes were almost all asynchronous and once a week we had to connect to do the practical activity. Here we had to read a guide and we had to connect in small groups of 6-7 people in zoom plus a teacher and an assistant who guided us in the development of the activities.

The week before last my group had the first face-to-face activity and I consider that it was much better than the online ones, it was more entertaining, dynamic and faster.

I like this course because it gives us the theoretical and practical knowledge that we will use in the future when we work in the future, and with this we know what we will face when we work as dentists.

Post 7: An expert on my field

Lucy Beaman Hobbs, the world´s first female odontology graduate.

She graduating as a teacher at the age of 16, she practiced for ten years as a school teacher. She applied for admission as a medical student. However, her enrollment was denied because she was a woman. The dean of the institution that she was applying to, seeing her passion she showed for medicine, advised her to train in the field of dentistry.

In those days. before entering a school, applcants has to find a professional to initiate them as assistants, and after an arduous search, Dr. Samuel Wardle initiated her into the practice of dentristry.

Even without her proffesional degree, she set up her first practice in 1862. It brought her fame and certain reputation for the treatment and service that she provied.

In 1865, the Dental Society amended its blylaws to admit women. Lucy was admited to a college and began her training. Excelling in all disciplines and areas of dentistry, she earned the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery on February 21, 1866, becoming the firts woman dentist to be licensed.

I admire her because she was a woman who did not give up and fought to get what she wanted, even when society at the time was not in her favor.

She was able to revolutionize her era, and even todey, the American Association of Women Dentistry annually awards the "Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award" to the woman who has made the greatest contribution to the advancement, improvement and enrichment of dentistry and in the civic, cultural and humanitarian fields. Recognizing that she has made a grat difference in society.

Post 6: How can my mayor make the word a better place

I study Odontology, and I believe that it is a career that can generate a high impact on people and, consequently, on the word.

I consider that dentristy affects the worls in a positive way, because it helps people not only to be healthy but also to perform activities such as eating, talking an laughing in a more comfortable way. and even generating that their self-steem increases and they can develop in a more comfortable way when they are interancting with others.

I see myself giving my best from now on, studying to have a good bases and, in the future, attending with respect and consideration to my patients.

My carrer, as I mentioned, affects the word because it affects the people who live in it. But in addition to improving the lives of people individually, it can also do so collectively, researching and creating new trataments that can be available to more people and not only to those with high purchasing power.
